Standard 6: External Development Leadership
A school executive will design structures and processes that result in community engagement, support, and ownership. Acknowledging that schools no longer reflect but, in fact, build community, the leader proactively creates with staff, opportunities for parents/guardians, community, and business representatives to participate as "stockholders" in the school such that continued investment of resources and good will are not left to chance

Lakemoor Outreach Event
As part of Southwest Elementary School's community outreach program, the staff went to the Lakemoor apartment complex. We chose Lakemoor because a large group of our students, who qualify for free and reduced lunch, live in this apartment complex. Families in this community struggle having the means necessary to be involved in the school community as much as they would like. Families in this community struggle to make it to school so we brought the school to them. It is an opportunity for us to meet these families needs and involve them in the lives of their child at school. This allowed for the families to meet with the teachers and generate relationships between the school and the community. Many of the parents and students came out to meet the teachers, play games, enjoy food and listen to music. The artifact below is the digital story I created to share with the staff and community to show the importance of a strong connection between Southwest Elementary School and the community it serves.

Fall Festival
Every year the Southwest Elementary School PTA hosts a fall festival at the school site. It is a day of food, games and fun in order to bring the community to the school. It is also a fundraiser for the PTA to raise funds that will help support initiatives at the school. The artifact below is a digital story that I created and shared with the Southwest community and PTA to commemorate the event.

CERT Plan
Along with the Assistant Principal, I created our Community Emergency Response Team plan which is a required district document that explains the emergency protocols at Southwest Elementary School. This plan was put in place at our school and sent in to our district adminstration. This plan must be in place and reviewed every year. Changes in staff meant that the 2016-2017 plan needed updating in order to keep up with regulations. Below is the updated (2017-2018) CERT plan.

Title One Documentation
Southwest Elementary School is a Title I school. The Federal Government requires us to keep certain documentation in order to continue to receive Title I funds. These folders were monitored and updated by myself for Title I documentation. The folders are updated quarterly and placed in a Title I box that is audited by the district, state, and federal government. The artifacts below are pictures of the folders that I kept updated for Title One documentation.
